After months of waiting, officials have now confirmed the launch date for the much-awaited metro route, which is expected to bring major relief to thousands of daily passengers travelling between Pune city and the busy IT corridor in Hinjewadi.
The full metro line has 23 stations, but in the first phase, services will begin at 12 stations on the Hinjewadi side. The remaining 11 stations are expected to become operational in October 2026.
The first phase stations include Megapolis Society in Maan, Quadron Business Park, Dohler, Infosys Phase 2, Wipro Technologies Phase 2, Pall India, Shivaji Chowk, Courtyard by Marriott, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, Orchid Hotel and Ramnagar.
In the second phase, metro services will expand to High Street, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, Krushi Anusandhan, YASHADA, Savitribai Phule Pune University, RBI, Agriculture College, Shivajinagar and District & Sessions Court.
The metro route was earlier expected to start by May 31, but some pending work led to a delay. The implementing agency requested more time, pushing the launch date to June 15.
According to PMRDA Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, trial runs on the entire Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro route have been successfully completed.
The elevated metro corridor is 23.2 km long and is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Pune’s business districts and the Hinjewadi IT hub, where heavy traffic congestion remains a daily problem.
Once the line reaches Shivajinagar, it will also connect with Metro Line 1 (PCMC to Swargate) and Metro Line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi), improving overall metro connectivity in Pune.
Officials said the complete metro route will become operational after the second phase is completed in October, making travel across key parts of Pune faster and easier.
