According to senior metro officials, the first phase of the metro corridor is likely to open for passengers in the last week of June, provided all final safety clearances are received on time.
The metro line is considered one of Pune’s most important public transport projects as it connects the city’s major IT hub with central Pune.
Officials said safety inspections are currently in the final stage. Once approval is granted by the concerned authorities, the first section of the metro route could become operational before June ends.
In the initial phase, the metro service will run between Maan and Balewadi and cover 12 stations. Trial runs on this stretch have already been completed successfully.
The launch is expected to bring major relief to daily commuters travelling through Balewadi, Wakad and nearby areas, where traffic congestion has become a serious problem over the years.
Meanwhile, work on the remaining stations closer to Shivajinagar is still underway. Authorities said construction on 11 stations is progressing quickly, but four stations between Baner and Shivajinagar are facing some technical challenges.
Due to these issues, the complete corridor may take more time to become fully operational. Officials believe the remaining work could be completed by October 2026.
Hinjewadi is home to thousands of IT employees who travel daily from different parts of Pune. The new metro route is expected to reduce travel time significantly and help lower the number of private vehicles on city roads.
For now, commuters across Pune are waiting for the first phase launch, which could mark a major step forward for the city’s metro network.
