Pune’s long-awaited Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing. Passenger services on the new corridor will begin on November 4, with 17 of its 23 stations opening in the first phase.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the inauguration ceremony. The new metro corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Hinjawadi IT Park and central Pune, while helping reduce traffic congestion on major roads.

Metro Timings and Frequency

Regular metro services will begin at 6 am on November 4. During peak hours, trains will run every six minutes, while the frequency will be every 12 minutes during other hours.

The last train from Maan station towards District Court will depart at 10:30 pm. In the opposite direction, the last train from District Court towards Maan will leave at 11:40 pm.

District Court station will provide direct interchange connectivity with MahaMetro’s Line 1 and Line 2. Passengers will also have access to a common mobile application and the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).

17 Stations to Open in the First Phase

The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar corridor has a total of 23 stations. However, passenger services will initially be available at 17 stations. Of these, both staircases will be open at 10 stations.

At Maan, Hinjawadi Phase 2 Circle 1, Padmabhushan Chowk, Agriculture College and District Court stations, only one staircase will initially be open.

The remaining six stations will be opened in phases after the necessary work and safety inspections are completed.

Foundation Laid for Pune Metro Phase 2

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the much-awaited second phase of Pune Metro, along with other transport-related projects.

These developments are expected to improve connectivity across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad in the coming years, offering commuters faster and more convenient public transport options.

Pune Metro to Generate 30% of Its Electricity

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Pune Metro would operate as a green and environmentally friendly transport system.

He stated that the metro would generate 30% of its total electricity requirement on its own. The initiative is expected to help reduce its dependence on external power sources and support more sustainable urban transport.
