Developed through the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) under a public-private partnership, the 23.3-km metro corridor is designed to connect the Hinjawadi IT Park with central Pune. The route is expected to benefit commuters travelling through Hinjawadi, Balewadi, Baner and Shivajinagar.
17 of 23 Stations Reportedly Ready
Of the corridor’s 23 stations, 17 are reportedly ready for the inauguration, while work continues at the remaining six. However, it is not yet clear how many stations will be operational initially or when regular passenger services will begin.
The inauguration has been postponed several times in the past, including due to the Model Code of Conduct during Legislative Council elections. Preparations are now reportedly underway for the November 3 event.
Inauguration Ceremony Planned at Balewadi
The main ceremony is expected to take place at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi. Although Prime Minister Modi’s proposed visit to Pune has reportedly been postponed, he is expected to inaugurate the corridor online.
The event is also expected to include the groundbreaking ceremony for two additional phases of Pune Metro.
The new corridor is expected to provide an important transport option for employees working in Hinjawadi’s IT Park and daily commuters across Pune. However, passengers are awaiting official confirmation of the passenger service launch date and the stations that will open during the initial phase.
