Hinjewadi - Hinjawadi
Pune commuters may soon get relief from traffic congestion as the first phase of Pune Metro Line 3 is expected to become operational by July 15.

PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari said the first section of the metro corridor, covering 12 stations between Maan in Hinjewadi and Ramnagar in Baner, will start services by July 15 under any circumstance.

He said technical inspections and safety certification for the first phase will be carried out by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) between June 15 and June 20. Based on the outcome of the inspection, operations could begin by the end of June or by mid-July.

Chaudhari also announced that four additional stations, including Shivajinagar, are expected to open by the end of August. The entire metro corridor from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is planned to become fully operational by December 2026.

According to PMRDA, construction work on the corridor is progressing rapidly. Authorities are also developing wider and improved footpaths near the first seven stations to ensure easier access for passengers.

During a review meeting, Chaudhari assessed the progress of several major infrastructure projects, including the Inner Ring Road, water supply schemes, monsoon preparedness measures and action against unauthorised structures.

To improve administrative efficiency, PMRDA is introducing a single-window system that will allow officials to track file movements and approvals in real time.

The authority is also addressing staff shortages. Around 70 clerical employees are expected to join through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), while additional officers are being appointed on deputation.

On the issue of traffic congestion, Chaudhari said PMRDA will directly undertake road improvement works identified under planning proposals, especially in Chakan, where traffic problems have become increasingly severe.

He added that discussions regarding land acquisition for the Ring Road project are ongoing. The acquisition process will begin only after all legal and technical matters are fully resolved.

The proposed twin tunnel project is currently awaiting approval from the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA). After receiving approval for suggested modifications, the proposal will be forwarded to higher authorities for further clearance.

To tackle future water shortages, PMRDA is preparing a regional water supply scheme in coordination with the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran and the irrigation department.

Ahead of the monsoon season, major drains in the Hinjewadi IT Park area have already been cleaned to prevent waterlogging. PMRDA, MIDC and local gram panchayats have jointly planned monsoon-related responsibilities, while structural audits of bridges across PMRDA limits have been completed.

The authority has also started using AI-powered drone survey technology to identify unauthorised hoardings and flex boards. Owners will be asked to obtain necessary permissions, failing which action, including demolition and criminal cases, may follow.

PMRDA’s future plans also include rural road repairs, housing projects across talukas, the establishment of 10 fire stations and completion of the POCSO court building by the end of September.
