Dudi gave the directions during the first meeting of a high-level committee formed to find solutions to traffic congestion, poor internal roads, metro connectivity, public transport, water supply and other infrastructure issues in the Hinjewadi area.
He asked MIDC to start work on priority in areas facing severe traffic congestion.
Around 19.1 km of roads have been proposed to improve last-mile connectivity to metro stations in Hinjewadi. This includes around 7.225 km of roads in the PMRDA area and 11.974 km in the MIDC area.
The administration plans to focus not only on vehicle movement but also on pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrian and cycling facilities will be developed along these routes to make travel safer.
The district administration has also ordered an immediate scientific traffic study to strengthen public transport in the area. Based on the study, further measures will be planned.
Plans are also being considered to develop a transit hub in Hinjewadi. Officials have been asked to examine whether the available land for a PMPML depot can be used for this purpose or whether another suitable location can be identified.
To reduce congestion on internal roads, heavy vehicles carrying construction material have already been restricted during morning and evening peak hours. Officials have been instructed to ensure that the restriction is properly enforced.
Under the last-mile connectivity plan, roads within around 500 metres to 1.5 km of metro stations will be improved. The proposed works include footpaths, cycle tracks, tactile paths, safer pedestrian crossings, street lights and direction boards.
The administration has also asked officials to ensure that these routes are accessible for people with disabilities. Planned parking facilities near metro stations will also help reduce congestion caused by illegal roadside parking.
The water supply issue is another major concern in Hinjewadi. Discussions are underway with Tata Company regarding the possibility of making water from Mulshi Dam available to the area as a long-term water solution.
To improve security, AI-based CCTV cameras will also be installed in the Hinjewadi area through the police department. The district administration will provide the required funds for the project.
District officials and other agencies will visit the Hinjewadi area next week to review the progress of various development works. Departments have been asked to start the required work immediately and submit progress reports before the visit.
