The issue was discussed at a meeting attended by PCCHSF President Sachin Londhe, representatives of the Forum for IT Employees, housing societies, industrial organisations and groups working on traffic-related issues.
The participants discussed practical measures to improve traffic movement and stressed the need for better coordination between government departments, civic bodies, police, industries and local residents.
Londhe said the traffic problems cannot be solved through isolated efforts by individual departments. According to him, all stakeholders need to work through a common mechanism with clearly defined timelines.
The meeting comes amid continued complaints about traffic around the Hinjewadi IT Park. A communication issued by Hinjewadi Police Station to various departments had highlighted several concerns, including traffic congestion, road safety and accidents, along with encroachments and poor road conditions.
Thousands of IT professionals travel through Hinjewadi every day, and the traffic situation has become a regular part of their daily commute. Jaydev Akkalkote of the Forum for IT Employees said the focus should now be on practical solutions, improved traffic management and faster completion of infrastructure projects.
The problems are not limited to Hinjewadi. Representatives from the Chakan MIDC Entrepreneurs Association said congestion and inadequate road infrastructure are also affecting businesses and workers across the Talegaon–Chakan–Khed industrial belt.
The industrial corridor is an important economic zone, but traffic delays and poor connectivity are creating difficulties for companies as well as employees. Industry representatives called for closer coordination between the administration, local authorities and businesses.
Participants also stressed that temporary traffic diversions and short-term measures will not be enough.
Nikhil Kadam said Hinjewadi’s traffic problem has become a daily issue for both residents and employees. He called for permanent solutions, proper planning and fixed deadlines for infrastructure projects.
Nivas Mane pointed out that the problems extend across the wider industrial corridor. He said regular follow-ups with government departments would be necessary to ensure that decisions taken during meetings are actually implemented.
PCCHSF said it has been raising the issue with the state government and other authorities through its #UnclogHinjewadiITPark campaign.
The federation also referred to a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in July 2025. Following that meeting, the Pune Divisional Commissioner was appointed as the nodal officer to coordinate efforts to address traffic-related issues in the region.
According to PCCHSF, several measures were initiated after the meeting, but their implementation has been affected by issues such as land acquisition, encroachments, technical difficulties and administrative delays.
The participants have now proposed a non-political coordination committee involving representatives of concerned organisations and activists. The committee could function under the guidance of the nodal officer and regularly review the progress of infrastructure and traffic-related work.
They have also sought another meeting with the Chief Minister to assess the status of ongoing measures and decide on the next steps.
Other suggestions included better monitoring and quality control of approved infrastructure projects, greater awareness about land acquisition, more traffic police and traffic wardens at major congestion points, and improved coordination between gram panchayats and other local authorities.
Hinjewadi and the Talegaon–Chakan–Khed corridor are important employment and industrial zones in the Pune region. With traffic continuing to affect commuters, residents and businesses, the groups involved say permanent infrastructure solutions and faster implementation are now needed.
