The warning came during a high-level task force meeting held to review traffic congestion and road-related issues in Chakan and Hinjewadi. The meeting covered potholes, rainwater drainage, encroachments on drains, road widening, junctions, U-turns and public transport.
Officials from MIDC, municipal bodies, police, highways and other departments attended the meeting.
Dudi directed the concerned agencies to remove encroachments, complete the required surveys and keep plans and procedures ready for road improvement works.
In Chakan, seasonal encroachments should be removed immediately, Dudi said. Action should also be taken against unauthorised constructions and drains should be cleared.
Where legally approved constructions are blocking drains, officials should explore alternative routes for diverting the drainage system and identify the land required for the work.
MIDC and PMRDA have been asked to survey drains in their respective areas and collect details of encroachments. Road designs should also take into account current traffic volume, vehicle movement and the expected increase in traffic in the future.
Dudi also directed officials to take immediate steps to repair road potholes. However, he stressed that simply filling potholes would not be enough.
A proper rainwater drainage system must be developed to prevent water from accumulating on roads and damaging them repeatedly.
The meeting also discussed the use of ITMS and traffic simulation systems for better traffic planning. Traffic management requirements should be considered while designing and improving roads.
Another major concern was the unauthorised stopping of buses and other vehicles on national highways and service roads. Officials were directed to ensure that buses stop only at authorised bus stops and designated depots.
Police will take action against unauthorised stopping points and illegal parking that contribute to traffic congestion.
Dudi said the concerned agencies must complete the necessary planning and keep the process ready so that road, drainage and traffic-related works can be taken up without unnecessary delays.
