Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol said the first phase of the metro project is likely to open soon, bringing an end to months of waiting. The launch, which was earlier expected in mid-July, was delayed due to technical and safety approval procedures.
The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), led by Janak Garg, inspected the first phase of the corridor between July 5 and July 9. During the inspection, officials suggested a few minor technical improvements.
The metro authorities have completed the required changes and submitted the final compliance report to the Delhi office for approval. Officials expect the final safety clearance to be issued within the next two to three days.
The first phase of Metro Line 3 will operate between Maan (Hinjewadi) and Balewadi, covering 13.3 km with 12 stations. The route is expected to provide a faster travel option for thousands of people working in Hinjewadi IT Park and nearby areas.
According to officials, the starting metro fare is expected to be around Rs 12, making it an affordable option for daily commuters.
The new metro service is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Hinjewadi Phases 1, 2 and 3, as well as Wakad and Balewadi. It is also expected to help commuters save travel time and fuel costs.
After the July 15 launch target was missed, Murlidhar Mohol personally reviewed the project’s progress and held meetings with senior railway and metro officials in Delhi to speed up the approval process.
Once the first phase becomes operational, work will continue on the second phase between Balewadi and District Court (Shivajinagar). Metro authorities aim to complete this section by the end of August.
Once the 23-km Metro Line 3 is fully operational, it will directly connect Hinjewadi IT Hub with central Pune, offering faster and more convenient public transport for thousands of commuters.
