A major job scam has come to light in Pune’s Hinjewadi, where IT freshers were allegedly cheated of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs.

According to police, two accused — Amol Mahadik and Omkar Mahadik — have been booked for the IT job scam. The complaint was filed by a 23-year-old man from Latur at the Hinjewadi police station.

Officials said the accused lured candidates by offering “backdoor entry” jobs in IT companies. They conducted fake interviews and collected money in stages from the victims.

After taking over ₹1 lakh from the complainant, the accused gave what appeared to be genuine offer letters. They also charged additional amounts in the name of consultancy fees and job confirmation, taking around ₹1.5 lakh in total from one victim.

The victims were even given training for three months. They were promised a monthly stipend of ₹15,000, but no payment was made even after the training period.

This raised suspicion, and the victims realised they had been cheated. Several others were also targeted, and the total fraud amount is estimated to be around ₹7.8 lakh.

When the victims went to the office in Phase 2, they found it locked. The accused had already switched off their phones and are currently absconding.

Police suspect more people may have been cheated in the same manner. An investigation is underway to trace the accused and gather more details about the fraud case.
