According to police, the online fraud took place between March 30 and April 24, 2026, in the Hinjawadi area. A case has been registered at Hinjawadi Police Station against two accused identified as Pratima Bansal and Mayank Sachan.
Investigators said the accused added the complainant to multiple WhatsApp groups related to stock market investments and IPO discussions.
Over time, the fraudsters allegedly gained the victim’s trust by regularly discussing investment opportunities and promising large profits on bigger investments.
Police said the complainant was later asked to complete KYC updates through a mobile application. The accused then allegedly convinced him to transfer money into different bank accounts for investment purposes.
In total, the victim transferred Rs 35.28 lakh. However, the promised returns were never given, and the money was also not returned.
After realising he had been cheated, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint.
The Hinjawadi Police have started an investigation and are tracing the bank transactions and digital communication linked to the case.
In another cheating case reported from Pimpri Chinchwad, a man was allegedly duped of Rs 5.10 lakh on the false promise of releasing mortgaged gold from a bank.
The incident took place near Janata Sahakari Bank at Chinchwad Station between May 15 and May 20.
Based on the complaint, Pimpri police arrested Prashant Mohan Gaikwad from Khed Rajgurunagar.
According to police, the accused told the complainant that he needed money to release 60 grams of gold mortgaged with the bank. To build trust, he allegedly prepared a written agreement related to the transaction.
The complainant later transferred Rs 5.10 lakh into the accused’s account. However, instead of releasing the gold, the accused allegedly fled from the bank premises and stopped responding.
Police are continuing further investigation in both cheating cases.
