However, the inauguration date remains uncertain after the Model Code of Conduct came into effect for the Pune Division Graduate and Teachers’ Constituency elections. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has also not yet confirmed a date for the inauguration.
PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari inspected the progress and quality of Metro Line 3 on Tuesday, September 22.
A 150-metre pedestrian bridge connecting the District Court station with MahaMetro’s network in Pune has also been completed. The bridge will allow passengers using Line 3 to connect with other Metro corridors at the District Court station.
The 23.203-km Metro Line 3 has 23 stations. It is the first Metro project being implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model under the central government’s Metro Rail Policy 2017.
The Metro Railway Safety Commissioner (CMRS) has already approved the first 12 stations for passenger services. PMRDA now plans to include five additional stations and begin operations from 17 stations in the first phase.
The remaining six stations will initially remain closed.
The Model Code of Conduct came into effect on Tuesday for the Pune Division Graduate and Teachers’ Constituency elections. Voting is scheduled for October 23, while counting will take place on October 27.
As a result, PMRDA is now awaiting guidance from the election authorities as well as a decision from the PMO regarding the inauguration.
Dr Abhijit Chaudhari said the PMO has not yet provided an inauguration date. He added that the district collector’s office would be approached for guidance on whether an inauguration programme can be held during the Model Code of Conduct.
The next steps will be taken according to the instructions of the election authorities.
