Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari has set a firm deadline of May 31 for completing all pre-monsoon work in Hinjewadi, Maan and nearby areas.
He warned that if technical failures, delays or poor coordination lead to damage to public property or loss of life, action will be taken against the concerned officers under the Disaster Management Act.
Every monsoon, Hinjewadi and surrounding IT park areas face serious waterlogging and heavy traffic congestion, causing major trouble for thousands of office workers and local residents. Last year, several roads in the area were badly flooded, disrupting normal movement.
At a pre-monsoon disaster management meeting held at PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi, officials were told that this year there should be action on the ground, not just meetings and discussions.
Dr Chaudhari directed departments including NHAI, MIDC, PMRDA, local gram panchayats and the irrigation department to work together and ensure smooth drainage in the area.
He also ordered immediate cleaning, widening and deepening of major drains in Hinjewadi and Maan. Encroachments blocking natural water flow must be removed before May 31, officials said.
Traffic police have also identified several black spots in and around the IT park where water regularly collects during heavy rain, leading to long traffic jams. These locations will now be taken up for urgent corrective work.
Senior officials from PMRDA, MIDC, traffic police, the water resources department, forest department and NHAI attended the meeting to finalise the action plan.
With the monsoon approaching, authorities say there will be zero tolerance for delays, and officials responsible for lapses could face direct action if Hinjewadi once again struggles with flooding and traffic chaos.
