The project, estimated to cost Rs 6,000 crore, was announced by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. It is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on one of Pune’s busiest road networks.
The elevated corridor will run from Ravet to Narhe along the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway, where traffic has increased significantly over the years due to rapid urban growth and expanding residential areas.
Once completed, the project is expected to benefit commuters travelling through Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Ravet, Kiwale, Balewadi, Baner, Bavdhan, and the Hinjewadi IT Park. Residents of Maan, Marunji, Nere, and Jambhe are also expected to benefit from the improved connectivity.
According to officials, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time, improve traffic movement, and ease congestion on key routes used by thousands of daily commuters.
The proposal gained momentum after Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap raised the issue during the Maharashtra Assembly session in March 2026. He highlighted the growing traffic problems around Hinjewadi IT Park and stressed the need for a dedicated elevated corridor.
Following continuous follow-up with both the state and central governments, the project has now received approval for its DPR.
Construction work is expected to begin after the required administrative formalities are completed.
Shankar Jagtap said the project will play a key role in strengthening the region’s transport infrastructure and provide long-term relief from daily traffic congestion for lakhs of commuters.
