Pune: Thousands of commuters travelling to Hinjawadi IT Park continue to face daily difficulties as several infrastructure projects remain incomplete despite the arrival of the monsoon.

Metro construction, unfinished drainage work, potholes and construction debris are creating major challenges for office-goers across Phases 1, 2 and 3 of the IT hub. Although authorities had nearly an extra month to complete pre-monsoon work due to the delayed onset of rains, many projects are still unfinished.

A ground visit to the area found several ongoing issues, including debris below metro stations, incomplete drainage works, broken drain covers, mud spread across roads, unfinished paving blocks and poorly maintained water drainage points.

Officials are currently focusing on completing the first phase of Pune Metro Line 3 before its planned launch. As a result, several drainage projects linked to the metro corridor have reportedly been left incomplete while priority is being given to finishing metro-related work.

The Hinjawadi IT Park covers around 683 hectares and houses 234 companies with an estimated workforce of nearly 4.5 lakh employees. The area has a road network of about 28.84 kilometres and receives around 24 million litres of water every day.

During the inspection, roads were found to be mostly usable, but construction debris on both sides of several stretches continued to create inconvenience for commuters. Incomplete work was also noticed near Mega Police Circle, Dolher Company, metro stations and Infosys Circle.

Several drainage channels are still under construction, with excavation work continuing even during the rainy season. In some locations, retaining walls have not been completed, while partially repaired potholes and mud left by construction vehicles have made roads slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.

Authorities said several measures have already been completed, including the widening of three drains, pre-monsoon cleaning of drainage channels, road repairs and supplying materials to the Maan Gram Panchayat. Officials also said roads affected by metro construction will be restored once the work is completed.

MIDC Executive Engineer Rajendra Totla said most road-related work has been completed and inspections are being carried out regularly to ensure waterlogging does not occur in the industrial area. According to him, no major water accumulation has been observed so far this year.

PMRDA Executive Engineer Vasant Naik said drainage cleaning and widening work has been completed in many locations, while teams remain on the ground to monitor the situation under the guidance of senior officials.

However, IT professional Sanjog Wagh said construction activities during the monsoon are adding to traffic congestion. He also pointed out that mud carried onto roads by trucks and tractors makes the surface slippery, increasing the chances of road accidents.

Despite repeated reviews and infrastructure projects, commuters say several long-standing issues remain unresolved. With the monsoon expected to continue, many are hoping that the pending works will be completed soon to improve travel conditions in Hinjawadi.
