Thousands of commuters waiting for the Hinjawadi Metro Line 3 may have to wait longer as several important works on the project are still incomplete.

According to available information, authorities had earlier planned to begin metro services from June 15. However, work at multiple stations and pending technical tests have now raised doubts over whether the service can start on time.

Officials said construction and finishing work at some major stations is still underway. Facilities at stations such as Megapolis Society, Infosys, Wipro and Balewadi Stadium are reportedly not fully ready yet.

Apart from station work, some technical testing related to the metro operations is also pending.

The Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is around 23.203 kilometres long and is considered one of Pune’s most important infrastructure projects. The metro corridor is expected to reduce heavy traffic congestion, especially in the busy IT hub areas.

The project is also expected to benefit thousands of employees travelling daily to IT companies in Hinjawadi.

However, reports now suggest that the metro project could face delays till 2027, increasing the wait for Pune commuters.

If the delay continues, traffic congestion on the Hinjawadi route is likely to remain a major problem for a longer period.

Authorities have said efforts are being made to complete the remaining work and start the metro service as early as possible.
