The six-day Sharodiya Durgotsav will be held from October 16 to 21, 2026, at Sitai Banquet Hall in Hinjawadi Phase II.
The initiative is being led by women and aims to bring together families living in the rapidly growing Hinjawadi neighbourhood. Organisers want the celebration to go beyond the traditional Puja rituals and create a space where people from different communities can meet, participate and celebrate together.
The association began with informal meetings and family gatherings among residents. It has now grown into a wider cultural initiative. The first Durgotsav will include traditional rituals, cultural programmes, activities for children and other community events.
The group is also planning events throughout the year, including Saraswati Puja, Poila Boishakh, Lakshmi Puja and other cultural and social programmes.
Kavita Ghosh Biswas, one of the organisers, said the association wants people to feel welcome regardless of their language, state or community background.
According to the organisers, Durga Puja is not limited to religious rituals. It also brings together art, music, food and community celebrations. The new event aims to create that same sense of togetherness within Hinjawadi.
The 2026 celebration will have Nari Shakti as its central theme. The theme reflects the important role women are playing in shaping the association and its activities.
As part of the initiative, Oitijhyo is also working on a programme called “51 Nari Shakti”. It will highlight the stories of 51 women connected with the wider community.
The organisers plan to feature women from different walks of life, including professionals, entrepreneurs, caregivers, organisers and community leaders. The initiative is intended to recognise their contributions beyond the Puja itself.
Nandini Roy Choudhury said women’s involvement should not be limited to a theme used during the festival. She said women are actively involved in decision-making and in shaping the cultural direction of the association.
The choice of Hinjawadi is also significant. The area has grown rapidly over the past decade and has become one of Pune’s major IT and residential hubs. However, residents often travel to other parts of the city to attend large cultural celebrations.
The organisers see the new Durga Puja as an opportunity to develop a festival closer to where people live and work. They hope it will eventually become part of Hinjawadi’s cultural identity.
The event will take place at Sitai Banquet Hall near Aarham Food Court in Bhatewara Nagar, Hinjawadi Phase II, Pune 411057.
The association is inviting local residents, artists, performers, volunteers, businesses and organisations to take part in the celebration. Organisers say they want the festival to grow through community participation and become a shared cultural platform for Hinjawadi.
