The worsening traffic and poor road conditions in Hinjewadi IT Park have once again raised concerns among IT professionals and local residents. After Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray visited the area on Tuesday, residents highlighted several civic issues and announced a protest for September 6.

One of the biggest concerns is the time taken to travel between Phase 1 and Phase 3. Although the distance is only around 1.5 to 2 km, residents said the journey can take nearly 90 minutes during peak morning and evening hours.

Pothole-filled roads and heavy traffic have made daily commuting difficult, residents told Thackeray. They also raised concerns about the impact of traffic jams during medical emergencies, saying it can become difficult to take patients to nearby hospitals on time.

Hinjewadi is a major employment hub with around four to five lakh people working in various IT companies. Residents said basic facilities such as good roads, regular water supply and reliable electricity need urgent attention because of the area’s growing population and workforce.

Encroachments on footpaths were another concern raised during the meeting. Residents said many footpaths have been occupied, forcing pedestrians to walk along busy roads. They also claimed that 10 people died in road accidents in the area over the past year.

Waste management has also become a problem. Residents alleged that garbage from housing societies is not collected regularly and waste is often not segregated. They said the existing gram panchayat system does not have enough resources to meet the needs of the rapidly growing area.

The long-pending proposal to bring water from Mulshi Dam was also discussed. Residents said the issue has been under consideration for several years but has yet to see a concrete solution.

During his visit, Thackeray inspected several roads and spoke with IT professionals and residents about their problems. He also visited the Hinjewadi Metro station to review the ongoing work and met representatives of the Hinjewadi Gram Panchayat to discuss infrastructure issues.

The visit came after Thackeray inspected roads in the Chakan MIDC area on Independence Day. Following that visit, Hinjewadi IT professionals contacted him and requested a similar inspection of their area.

Poor roads and traffic problems have also become a concern for businesses in the Chakan MIDC area. Around 20 companies are reportedly considering relocation due to poor infrastructure, traffic congestion and road conditions.

IT professionals and residents in Hinjewadi have now announced an agitation on September 6 to press for their demands. Thackeray has also extended his public support to the proposed protest.
