The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has proposed four new connector roads to reduce the growing traffic congestion in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjawadi.

Officials said the new roads are expected to improve connectivity and offer alternative travel routes for thousands of daily commuters travelling through the Hinjawadi-Maan-Marunji-Wakad belt.

PMRDA has already submitted land acquisition proposals for the projects to the district collector’s office. Construction work is expected to begin after the acquisition process is completed.

One of the key projects includes the widening of the Mhalunge to Hinjawadi Phase-I road. The existing seven-metre-wide road will be expanded to 24 metres over a stretch of around 2.2 kilometres.

Another proposed connector road will link Surya Hospital, Thakar Vasti and Maan Gaothan. The new road will be 24 metres wide and around 3.74 kilometres long.

Officials believe this route will provide major relief for commuters travelling between Hinjawadi and nearby residential areas.

PMRDA has also proposed the development of the Marunji–Shani Mandir Wakad road. The planned road will be 24 metres wide and nearly 3.25 kilometres in length.

In addition, a new 36-metre-wide road connecting Nande and Maan will be developed over a distance of around 1.5 kilometres.

According to PMRDA officials, traffic pressure on roads inside the Hinjawadi IT Park has increased significantly in recent years due to rapid residential and commercial growth in the area.

Shivprasad Bagdi, Chief Engineer of PMRDA, said the authority has planned these alternative routes to reduce pressure on the main roads and improve overall traffic movement in the IT corridor.

He added that the road work will begin once the land acquisition process is completed.
