Hinjawadi, one of Pune’s biggest IT and industrial centres, sees heavy traffic every day as thousands of vehicles move through the area. This has led to long delays and daily frustration for local residents, office workers and transport vehicles.
To improve movement, PMRDA has started the land acquisition process for the project. Joint measurement work has already been completed in some locations, and officials are pushing to speed up the work before the monsoon arrives.
The new road network is expected to offer alternative routes, reduce pressure on existing roads and make traffic management more effective in the area.
The six proposed connecting roads include Surya Hospital to Thakarvasti, Thakarvasti to Maangaonthan, Nandegaon to Maangaon, Laxmi Chowk-Hinjawadi-Kolte Patil Society route, Shani Mandir Wakad to Marunji, and Jagtap Chowk to Shindevasti Marunji.
Officials believe these roads will provide major relief not only to daily commuters and IT employees, but also to industrial transport vehicles operating in and around Hinjawadi.
PMRDA has also included improved connectivity in industrial belts such as Chakan, Ranjangaon, Talegaon and Pirangut in its 2025-26 planning. The larger goal is to strengthen road links across 674 villages spread over nine talukas in the Pune metropolitan region.
Authorities said better roads in Hinjawadi will not only solve traffic congestion, but also support industrial growth, improve rural connectivity and create more employment opportunities in nearby areas.
PMRDA engineers are closely monitoring ongoing and pending road projects. Officials have been instructed to complete as much work as possible before the rainy season, while maintaining construction quality.
According to PMRDA officials, once these new roads are completed, commuters in Hinjawadi can expect smoother travel and reduced traffic bottlenecks.
