The incident took place on Thursday morning on the Marunji Link Road between Marunji and Wipro Circle in Pune’s IT hub. According to preliminary information, an argument broke out between a motorcyclist and the driver of a white Swift Dzire with a Madhya Pradesh registration number while both were travelling on the road.
As the dispute escalated, the biker allegedly began chasing the car for several kilometres. Viral videos appear to show the rider following the vehicle closely and attempting to hit or knock on the car’s side window while both vehicles were moving.
The situation reached its peak near Wipro Circle, where the car allegedly collided with the motorcycle. The impact caused the rider to lose control and crash into a parked vehicle on the roadside.
After the collision, the car driver allegedly fled the spot and drove towards the Capgemini office, leading to allegations of a hit-and-run incident. The video of the crash quickly spread across social media, with many users demanding strict action against those involved.
Initial reports on social media claimed that the biker had suffered a serious head injury. However, police later clarified that, based on the information available so far, no major injuries have been confirmed. Officials said the exact nature of the injuries is still being verified.
Police have started examining the viral videos along with other available evidence to establish the sequence of events. Investigators said the actions of both the motorcyclist and the car driver are being examined, as preliminary findings suggest that both individuals may have contributed to the incident.
Authorities are also expected to review CCTV footage from the area, record statements from eyewitnesses and gather additional evidence before deciding on further legal action.
The Hinjawadi incident has once again raised concerns over increasing cases of aggressive driving and road rage on busy roads in Pune’s IT corridor. Residents have urged authorities to take strict action against reckless driving and improve enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and appropriate legal action will be taken after all evidence has been examined.
