The operation may have looked like a real counter-terror mission at first. However, there was no actual threat. The entire operation was a joint security drill conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG) and US military to test how different agencies would respond to a major emergency.
The five-hour exercise was held at an IT company in Hinjawadi between 4 pm and 9 pm. More than 100 personnel from the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Pimpri-Chinchwad Police and other security and investigation agencies took part in the drill.
The exercise was designed around possible situations such as a terrorist attack, hostage crisis or other serious emergencies. Security teams were required to coordinate their response and demonstrate how quickly they could deal with such a situation.
The sudden arrival of the commandos and the presence of military vehicles and armed personnel attracted attention from people in and around the IT Park. Police personnel were also deployed in large numbers during the exercise.
Many local residents were initially unsure about what was happening. Officials later clarified that the entire operation had been planned in advance and was not linked to any real security threat.
Videos and photographs from the exercise soon began circulating on social media. With the visuals creating confusion among some people, police appealed to citizens not to believe or share unverified information.
Officials said the participating agencies worked together during the exercise and demonstrated effective coordination. The situation in the area returned to normal after the drill was completed.
Security agencies regularly conduct such exercises at sensitive and crowded locations to test their preparedness. These drills help personnel understand their roles and improve coordination in case of an actual emergency.
