Hinjewadi Traffic Relief: The plan for a proposed flyover at Laxmi Chowk in Hinjewadi has been prepared to help ease the area’s traffic congestion.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared the flyover plan and sent it to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for their suggestions.

The final design will be decided after the plan is presented at the District Collector’s Office. The presentation will explain how the proposed flyover will be built and how it will help manage traffic at the busy junction.

There has been uncertainty for nearly a year over which agency would take up the project. Initially, MIDC was expected to handle the work and a two-level flyover plan was prepared. The project was later handed over to the PWD, but there was little progress for some time.

The project received a fresh push after a meeting held at the District Collector’s Office on September 11.

Several roads from different parts of Hinjewadi meet at Laxmi Chowk. Most of these roads are owned by MIDC. The PWD has therefore sent the plan to MIDC so that any changes or suggestions can be considered before the design is finalised. PMRDA’s views have also been sought.

Land acquisition for the flyover will need to be completed within the next two months. Earlier, directions had been issued to start construction from December 1.

Officials are also studying how the flyover can best reduce traffic congestion at Laxmi Chowk. Three different options are currently being considered, and the most suitable one will be selected.

PWD Superintendent Engineer Bharatkumar Baviskar said the department is studying the three options and will finalise the one that is most convenient for traffic movement.
