Krishnika Sachin Mane has been selected for a visit to the European Space Agency (ESA), while Srijit Sudhir Adsod has been selected to visit the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The selection was carried out as part of a special initiative by the Pune Zilla Parishad for students from Classes 6 to 8. The programme was designed to give students an opportunity to visit major space research centres and learn more about the field.
As part of the selection process, six students from the Hinjewadi Zilla Parishad school were shortlisted after the second examination conducted by MKCL.
The shortlisted students included Class 6 students Rajveer Chadad, Harshad Rathod and Srijit Adsod, along with Class 8 students Krishnika Mane, Ishwari Pawar and Suraj Gutte.
The students then appeared for interviews conducted by IUCAA, Pune. Based on their performance in the interviews and their overall scores, IUCAA and the Pune Zilla Parishad announced the final results.
Krishnika and Srijit were selected for the respective visits. Their achievement has brought pride to their school and the Hinjewadi area. It is also expected to inspire other students at the school to explore careers in science and space research.
The achievement is particularly significant given the financial challenges faced by both students’ families. Their parents work as daily-wage labourers and support their families through manual work.
Despite these difficulties, Krishnika and Srijit have shown that financial circumstances do not have to limit a student’s ambitions. Their success is being seen as an example of how education, hard work and determination can help children pursue big dreams.
The initiative has been running since last year under the vision of Zilla Parishad president Veerdhaval Jagdale and Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil.
Bapu Yele, headmaster of the Hinjewadi Zilla Parishad Primary School, said the students’ success was the result of their hard work, their parents’ determination and the guidance provided by teachers, the school management committee and senior officials.
The selection has given the two students an opportunity to get closer to the world of space science and research, while also opening a new path for other students from the school to dream bigger.
