Residents have alleged that the liquor business was started without obtaining all the required permissions and certificates. They have questioned how the necessary licence was issued and whether all documents were properly verified by the concerned authorities.
According to residents, an FL-3 licence issued by the state excise department for a rented premises requires a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the property owner as well as the secretary of the concerned housing society.
Residents claim that The Grooves Society has not issued an NOC for the liquor outlet. They also said that the society’s general body had already passed a resolution opposing any liquor-related business in the premises.
Residents have also asked authorities to check whether the required NOC was obtained from the gram panchayat or gram sabha, as the area falls under the Hinjewadi Gram Panchayat limits.
The protesters have questioned which documents were checked by the authorities before granting the licence.
Ganesh Jambhulkar, administrator, along with former sarpanch and current member Vikram Sakhare, Shivani Jambhulkar and Abhishek Jambhulkar, also supported the residents and participated in the protest.
Residents have submitted formal objections with more than 500 signatures to the Superintendent of State Excise, Pune District Collector, Hinjewadi Gram Panchayat and Hinjewadi Police Station.
They have also submitted representations to MP Supriya Sule, MLA Shankar Mandekar and Deputy Chief Minister and State Excise Minister Sunetra Pawar.
Residents have raised another question about the nature of the business. They said an FL-3 licence is generally issued for a restaurant and requires a kitchen facility.
However, residents allege that there is no kitchen or actual food service at the premises. They claim that the outlet is mainly selling liquor through a counter.
The residents are now seeking an inquiry into the permissions and documents submitted for the outlet and have urged the authorities to take appropriate action.
