The boy, who lived in Maan near Hinjewadi, was travelling with his family to attend his classes. The accident took place on Nande-Mhalunge Road, according to police and a PTI report.
Police said the motorcycle came into contact with the truck, causing the three people on the bike to fall. The boy fell under the truck’s rear wheel and died in the accident.
However, CCTV footage of the incident reportedly shows a slightly different sequence. The footage shows the motorcycle attempting to overtake the truck from the left before it skidded on a broken stretch of road. The boy then fell under the truck.
Police have registered a case against the truck driver for allegedly driving recklessly. An investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is underway.
The incident has triggered anger among local residents and daily commuters travelling towards Hinjewadi IT Park. Many have blamed the poor condition of the road and questioned the civic authorities over the lack of proper road maintenance.
The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety in Hinjewadi, where damaged roads and heavy traffic have become a major problem for daily commuters.
