The incident came to light on Wednesday after a farmer spotted a body floating in a well at Nere village and informed the police.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Patra (22), a native of Nadia district in West Bengal. Police have arrested his roommate, Vishal Manzi (22), also from Nadia district, under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the Hinjewadi Police, Patra and Manzi were working together at a nearby construction site and were staying in the same room.
During the investigation, officers found that Manzi was missing from the accommodation, while Patra’s mobile phone was switched off. This raised suspicion, and police launched a search for the accused.
Based on a tip-off, police traced Manzi to a friend’s room in Kothrud and arrested him before he could allegedly flee to West Bengal.
During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he had an argument with Patra over a minor issue on Tuesday night. Police said the dispute turned violent after Patra allegedly assaulted him.
According to investigators, Manzi then allegedly attacked Patra with a wooden stick, killing him. He later tied the victim’s hands and legs with wire before dumping the body into a nearby well in an attempt to hide the crime.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
