The incident took place on forest land where the couple had been living in a shed. The man’s nephew later approached the Hinjewadi police and filed a complaint.
According to the police, the victim had been struggling with alcohol addiction and had reportedly sold his property. His wife and son had left him because of his drinking habits, following which he began living with the woman in the shed.
Police said both the man and woman consumed alcohol and frequently argued after drinking.
The man was found dead near the shed on Monday morning. During questioning, the woman allegedly admitted to killing him.
According to her statement to the police, the couple had been drinking on Sunday night when an argument broke out. The woman alleged that the man assaulted her and twisted her hand during the fight.
She then picked up a stone and allegedly attacked him, resulting in his death.
Police have arrested the woman under Section 103 of the BNS, which deals with murder. Further investigation into the case is underway.
