Pune is expected to see a sharp rise in temperature once again, with the city likely to face intense heat over the next few days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Pune may stay between 40°C and 42°C from May 8 to May 12.

After a brief drop in temperatures recently, the sudden rise in heat is expected to bring discomfort, especially during afternoon hours when the sun is at its strongest.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel between noon and 4 pm, which is usually the hottest part of the day. Experts are also asking people to drink enough water and stay protected from direct sunlight.

Health experts have warned that extreme heat can lead to dehydration, exhaustion and sunstroke. Senior citizens, children and people working outdoors are being advised to take extra care during this period.

Meanwhile, weather conditions remain different in other parts of the country. The IMD has predicted heavy rain in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala over the next week.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected across many areas in south peninsular India over the next few days.

In northwest India, light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are likely till Friday, according to the weather department.

For Pune residents, however, the main concern over the coming days will be the rising temperature and hot afternoon conditions.
