A major power issue has been reported in Pune’s IT hub, Hinjawadi, after a fault was detected in a 220 kV cable. The problem could affect electricity supply in parts of the area if not fixed in time. The fault was found in an underground high-voltage cable connecting Phase 2 and Phase 3 of Hinjawadi. Officials said repair work has already started, but it may continue till the end of April. The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL), also known as MahaTransco, has asked the Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police for permission to dig up roads for urgent repairs. This step is needed to access the damaged cable. According to officials, the damage happened during ongoing metro construction work in the area. The project is being carried out by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited. If the issue is not resolved quickly, around 50 MW power supply to Hinjawadi Phase 3 could be affected. This area includes several major companies and data centres like Nxtra Data-1 and Nxtra Data-2. The fault location is near a metro station, close to the Doehler facility. Authorities have stressed that quick action is needed to avoid any disruption in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, which houses many top IT firms. Repair work is not easy, as there are many underground utilities in the area. These include pipelines, drainage systems and other power lines. This makes the process slow and more complex. MSETCL has taken up the work on priority and aims to complete it by April 30. Since the repairs involve road digging in a busy area, traffic movement may also be affected. Officials said proper coordination between departments will be important to finish the work on time, manage traffic and avoid any power disruption in the IT corridor.
