A businessman from Pune’s Hinjewadi area has made serious allegations of extortion threats and assault, accusing a local man and some police personnel of harassment and abuse.

The complainant, identified as Tanaji Maruti Jadhav, who runs a spa business, has claimed that he was repeatedly threatened and pressured to pay money every month.

According to Jadhav, a man named Avinash Baliram Shinde had been demanding Rs 50,000 every month from him for several months. He alleged that he paid the amount for some time due to pressure while his business was operational.

However, after his business remained shut for the past five months, he was unable to continue the payments. Jadhav claimed this led to repeated threats against him.

He alleged that the accused told him, “My relatives are in the police department and the law is in my pocket. I will make sure you rot in jail for life.”

Jadhav said he had already submitted a written complaint to the police regarding the matter. Following this, he was called to Hinjewadi Phase-1 Police Station on May 9, 2026.

But instead of hearing his complaint, he has alleged that some officers took him into a room, switched off CCTV cameras and assaulted him with a belt.

The businessman also claimed that his mobile phone was snatched away and that he was kept inside the lockup for hours. He alleged both physical and mental harassment during the incident.

According to Jadhav, he was treated like a criminal despite not committing any offence. The allegations have now raised serious questions over the handling of complaints and the treatment of citizens seeking help.

The Hinjewadi businessman has demanded a detailed inquiry by senior police officials and strict action against those involved. He has also requested authorities to examine the CCTV footage from the police station recorded on May 9.

Expressing concern over his safety, Jadhav said that if anything happens to him in the future, the people involved in the matter should be held responsible.

So far, there has been no official response from the police regarding the allegations.
