Lakshmi Chowk Flyover Hinjewadi: A Major Step Toward Smoother Traffic
Road Upgrades for a Better Commute
Pune’s Hinjewadi is on track for a major transformation aimed at easing traffic congestion. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has announced significant upgrades, including the construction of a new four-lane flyover and the completion of a six-lane road connecting Baner to Hinjewadi.
Key Investments in Infrastructure
The total cost for these projects is estimated at Rs 650 crore, according to Nitin Wankhede, MIDC’s chief engineer. This includes:
- Widening the road between Shivaji Chowk and Smashan Bhumi Chowk: Rs 25 crore
- Building a 5 km stretch toward Maan village on the state highway: Rs 584 crore
The projects will move forward once the necessary land is acquired by the Public Works Department (PWD).
Lakshmi Chowk Flyover: A Game Changer
The planned flyover at Lakshmi Chowk is expected to be 720 meters long and will have four lanes. This development will help commuters bypass traffic at one of the busiest junctions in Hinjewadi.
According to Wankhede, the tender process is almost complete, and construction will begin soon. “The flyover will be built on MIDC land,” he added.
Progress on the Baner-Hinjewadi Road
Efforts are also underway to complete the six-lane Baner-Hinjewadi road. Out of the total 5.75 km, 2.5 km has already been completed. The remaining portion is pending because land acquisition by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is still in progress.
Benefits for Commuters
Once these projects are completed, they will provide multiple benefits:
- Reduced traffic congestion
- Faster and smoother commutes
- Better connectivity between key areas like Shivaji Chowk and the IT park in Hinjewadi
These improvements are expected to make daily travel easier for thousands of residents, IT professionals, and industrial workers.
